Mum says, 'Scruffy Ferry dog'.

I crossed the Richmond River, from South Ballina to Ballina, on the Ferry today and I was fascinated sitting on dad the passenger’s lap, watching up the river. It was a very new experience to me and I loved it.

Then we walked around the town, there was a lovely large green oval, I walked beside, mum she walked 10,000 steps and my legs are shorter so I must have walked 50,000. I sure do not need to be checking the scales to make sure I keep my weight down with all the exercise I get.

Mum has promised me a run on the dogs off the leash beach tomorrowJ, Sounds good to me.

That is me on the spacious lawns of Ballina Beach Holiday Park, watching dad set up the caravan annex yesterday.

Today, Mum was driving me to the dogs off the leash beach here at South Ballina today and I was looking forward to it, when she pulled over, I thought she must need some
good sam roadside assistance but no she had decided to go and get her hair styled and a few foils put in it. What a crock. How boring for a dog.

Not only that, there is a serious danger that now she has smartened herself up, I will be next and I like  being a beach bum, type.

I am loving it here at Ballina Beach Holiday Park, enjoying the easy life, see photos below,  when I am not at the beach or waiting for mum while she shops and does her ladies’ stuff, in Ballina.

Indigo is a little too busy to chat today. She feels that chewing her bone takes priority over blogging.

She did not mind me talking about why she should be allowed to have more bones. lol :-)

I know that as a former dog owner and breeder and vets’ nurse more dogs die as a result of chewing plastic toys that they do from eating bones but bones that splinter and fragmented with sharp edges are dangerous to dogs.

Uncooked chicken wings are usually safe as the bones are soft yet they will massage the gums and the chewing action helps clean the dog's teeth. Raw marrow bones are excellent if the dog does not chew splintered pieces of bone. We give Indigo these bones to chew all the gristle off them and get the marrow out of the center as she is doing with this lamb leg bone in the photos then we take them off her or she will eat bone chunks.  It is a balancing act of what is good about eating bones versus the dangers involved.

Raw bones were a part of the natural diet of dogs though dogs are much evolved, since they were primary hunters.

I am having a fabulous time on my holiday around the coast of south east and up the coast of eastern Australia.

The best parts have been playing ball on the beach, meeting friends, running with mum, finding my own used and nice smelly tennis balls, though I do not like those hard used golf balls
. Then there is the fan mail, comments I get on my blog,
J meeting new friends in here.

Thank you for your comments, they are important to me and I have fun showing mum that I have more fan’s than she does, lol J.

Our next beach holiday destination is at South Ballina Beach Holiday Park. I hope to have heaps of doggy fun there before heading further north to 1770 where mum and dad will be celebrating their 42 wedding anniversary and I will have to be ‘on the ball’, that night, keeping an eye on them to make sure they behave properly.

Indigo has had another evening romping along the beautiful Seven Mile Beach behind her mum.

Picture
Now if Indigo's mum, Kathy ran 6 kilometres and Indigo ran back and forth between her running mum and her walking dad, I guess she must have run more than 10 kilometres on her little legs.  Mind you she takes heaps of naps and that is easy here in the tranquil settings of Seven Mile Beach Holiday Park, where we have been staying for the past fewdays and just loving it.

When we travel, I have to keep an eye on Indigo’s weight, as she gets so much exercise she sure does not need 7-dfbx. I think she would prefer the chicken skin and the steak gristle tit bit table scraps and without these I think she would loss too much weight in her valiant attempt to keep both mum and dad company during these  fun exercise sessions.  If we see her getting tired,  we do pick her up and carry her. J, she loves coming home from the beach, in dad’s arms.

If anyone has any ideas for helping a very active dog maintain weight, I would be interested in hearing them.

I have been working hard, taking mum out for her fitness runs and waking dad, at Seven Mile Beach, NSW.  It has proved a great place to make friends.
Picture
After my walk along the beach, I reached the creek and there on the other side was this cute dog.

Well I looked at him, he looked at me, and it was love at first sight.

Then with a character as strong as diamonds, he dog paddled across the creek to share a doggie date with me.

Picture
Whom will I meet and fall in love with tomorrow? J. Its fun being a gray nomad dog, no ties, love em and leave em. J

Mum needs to shampoo me with  hair growth shampoos lol, after all the fun and romps I am having here.

That's mum, brushing the sand out of my hair, making me look cute ready for the next 'pick up'.

I have had two perfect days here at Seven Mile Beach.  We are staying at and highly recommend the
very dog friendly Seven Mile Beach Holiday Park.

Indigo is sleeping off yet another romp on a dog friendly beach and walks alongside the lake and many meetings with new friends.

Picture
So I am sharing some photos of her tonight, thinking she is starting to look too scruffy to photograph, lol, she is taking on something of a beach bum look and definitely needs me to find the time to bath, blow dry and clip her..

If ever you have a story you would love to share about your dog or dogs, and pictures, please send them to Indigo’s mum,
Kathy

I have started a list of dog friendly walks in this web site, you are welcome to email me with information about great dog walk locations, to add to these pages.

Spacious, lawn caravan sites, shade trees, dog friendly caravan park, near a dogs off leash beach. Indigo's idea of a PERFCT holiday.
I am staying at Fountain Caravan Park, enjoying the spacious lawns and the lovely lake boardwalk, directly opposite which takes me straight to the dogs off a leash beach.   What more could a dog want for a perfect holiday location? J
Picture

My mum and dad love it here at this dog friendly caravan park, too.

The park is centrally located in beautiful Eden on the Sapphire Coast of NSW.

We plan to use the Fountain Caravan Park as a base to explore this area for a few days.

Above are some  photos, mum took of the park entrance and caravan sites.

This side, photo shows me enjoying the lake boardwalk on my way to the beach, yesterday.

I am definitely putting Fountain Caravan Park at Eden, southern NSW, on my highly recommended caravan parks, list.

I have already recommended this place to our own family.
J.

It is one day’s drive from Melbourne or Sydney though I recommend an easy two days, relaxing drive with lots of dog walks along the way.

This photo shows me enjoying the views of the many water birds in the lake, from my favorite vantage point, dad's arm.

I had a wonderful time at Lakes Entrance because my very best dog friend Kelly came to visit me.
Picture
Kelly and I took the folks for lots of walks, along the esplanade, the lake edge and in it then over the bridge to the 90-mile beach at Lakes Entrance and back to the caravan park we stayed at as neighbors.

Dogs are not allowed, in the National Parks but they are sometimes allowed in the car, and an owner can sit in a car in a car park with them and view scenery at some National Parks. You do need to check for the rules for each location.

There are many coastal parks where dogs are allowed on a lead during certain times.

These links may prove useful to dog owners to check out when you can visit waterways and beaches with your dog.

I was sad when it was time for Kelly and her family to go, I will not see them again until springtime.

When I tour I sit in the tiny space between mum and dad, in the front of our 'troopy', but Kelly had a family and she is too big to squish in between people so she has a beaut travel kennel built on the back of the family's ute. I think it's pretty 'cool' :-). Kelly looked a bit dejected that our fun together was over too. We had (and shared) a 'ball' together

Indigo hopes you all have a happy and safe Easter.

Indigo suggests the chicken not the egg, because dogs can eat some of the chicken dinner too.

Then for the active afternoon, again a tennis ball is better than an Easter egg, you can play ball with us dogs with that.

Then a lovely cosy bed to snuggle up in and 'sleep in', on, for when you don't get to sleep on the master's lap or as the foot warmer in the bed.

Stay Safe :-), Be Happy, see you when I sleep the ball game off.
